Module 3 - Google Docs

Well.....I am back again !! It has been a long time between blog posts as I have been quite unwell, but, thankfully I am recovered and ready to face the 2014 school year head on ! I was surprised at how much I remembered about this module. I had started in October last year and never got around to finishing it. I was able to create my own Google Doc easily, as well as navigating myself through Google drive and transferring my documents from my desktop into Google drive.  In my workplace, I feel that before we can even start to contemplate using Google Docs with our students, it needs to be used and embraced by the staff.

We currently we use email as a form of communication but would love to see a much more collaborative and efficient approach through the use of Google Docs. I would really like to try and introduce this to our staff and then with senior grades.  I also created my own Google form and can see its benefits.

Looking forward to what Module 4 has to offer.

Cheers,
Michelle

Module 2 - Blogging and Twitter

Well, I am on my way. I found Module 2 to be really helpful and informative for me as I explored creating my own blog.  Although I hate to admit it, I am a serial Facebooker and have recently made a more conscious effort not to post about everything I do.  However, learning how to create my own blog has provided me with another avenue to share my thoughts, wonderings and ideas with those around me. I can also see it as structured way for students to share reflections on their learning and one that they will embrace.....so much more exciting than writing or typing up a word document.
I have had a twitter account for some time, and have never really understood how it works and watching the short tutorial gave me great insight.  I now understand how to use a hashtag !!!!
At this stage, I am not sure how or if I can use blogging or twitter with my students and in my teaching due to where my school is at on its ICT journey, but, it has certainly given me food for thought as to what the possibilities can be and I look forward to sharing what I have learnt with my fellow staff members back at CtP.

Signing off on blog no. 2

Module 1 Web 2.0 Course

Hi there,
My name is Michelle Spiteri and I am a Music Specialist at Christ The Priest Primary School in Caroline Springs, Victoria.
I stumbled upon this course when the school's ICT leader asked me to attend an ICT network meeting on her behalf and I am very pleased that I did.  I have always felt out of the loop with the ever changing face of ICT within the education sector and feel as though completing this course will allow be to "catch up" and get my head around what is out there and available for use within schools.  I have used programs such as Audacity with my students and use the web as a teaching tool through sites such as Incredibox, but, would really like to incorporate a more collaborative approach to the sharing and recording of information. I found Module 1 interesting and it set a good foundation about what the course had to offer.  I look forward to completing the next 9 modules.

Until I blog again,

Michelle :-)
